Looking for bible verses about caring for others? I have a list of my favorites including free printable scripture cards to print and study them!
One of the main lessons we are taught as Christians is to love thy neighbor as yourself. This is God’s second commandment only after loving God with everything we have.
If I’m being honest, being nice and caring for others isn’t always the easiest thing. Is anyone else being real with me?
Caring for others in need can be kind of hard work, especially during the tough seasons of our own lives. So if you are like me, and need a reminder of what the bible says about caring for others, I rounded up 24 pieces of God’s word about caring for others.
And y’all know I love printables, so I had to put together a printable of all the bible verses so you can print them out and have them handy when you are debating good intentions. I think printing out the words of the Lord Jesus is one of the best ways to pray and meditate over it.
When I was going through a hard season of crippling anxiety, I printed out a bunch of scripture and had it in my car so I could read the verses at stop lights and while waiting to pick up my kiddos! Having the holy spirit with me at all times has gotten me through the darkest part of my life.
This post is going to be the first in a series about God’s love and self care. The two go hand in hand! Look out for more scripture cards about different parts of life.
There was no greater love than Christ Jesus showed in his own sacrifice of dying on the cross for others including his fellow Israelites.
Bible Verses About Caring For Others List
All of God’s children know that God’s law is the only standard of good deeds. We always try to make our own laws in the present world, but all we need to do is turn to the Holy Bible to learn all we need to know about doing good works.
Some of the scripture is from the new testaments and some are from the old testaments. God’s intentions on how we are to care for others are throughout the entire bible.
- James 1:27 NIV
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
- Philippians 2:4 NIV
“Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
- Ephesians 4:32 NIV
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
- Galatians 6:2 NIV
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
- Proverbs 28:27 NIV
“Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.”
- Hebrews 12:14 NIV
“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
- Romans 15:1-2 NIV
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.”
- Luke 21:1-4 NIV
“As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. ‘Truly I tell you,’ he said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.’”
- John 13:34-35 NIV
“‘A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.’”
- 1 John 3:17-18 NIV
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
- 1 Timothy 5:8 NIV
“Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
- Proverbs 21:13 NIV
“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”
- Luke 12:33 NIV
“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.”
- Proverbs 19:17 NIV
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
- James 2:14-17 NIV
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
- Luke 6:31 NIV
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
- John 3:16 NIV
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- 1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
- Romans 13:8-10 NIV
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
- Galatians 6:9-10 NIV
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
- Colossians 3:12 NIV
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
- Matthew 5:42 NIV
“Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”
- Matthew 25:31-46 NIV
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
I hope reading the Word of God has inspired you to help others. If you want to start out at your own house, I have a post on my site about making cards to send to soldiers that is a great activity to do with little children!
You really don’t have to do huge grand gestures to let your light shine! Being a cheerful giver can be as easy as serving at church, helping someone with groceries, buying a meal, or serving at a soup kitchen that helps poor people.
