When my kids were young, I loved planning their birthday parties! One of the reasons I started blogging in the first place was to show how you can throw an affordable DIY party (like our garbage truck party and dinosaur party!).
So I decided to create a party hat template for you to use at a birthday party or just for dress up!
Once I started making one printable birthday party hat I went a bit crazy and designed 6 more options for you to choose from!
DIY party hats are super easy to make and can even be an art activity at the party so all the kids will have their own birthday party hats to wear.
There is no physical item, just a digital download of the different designs in a downloadable PDF file at the bottom of the post.
What’s Included in Party Hat Pack
I wanted to make sure you had options for a birthday girl, birthday boy, and even blank templates for kids to color and decorate on their own. And really even adults can wear birthday hats say at our wine and paint party!
So, one PDF file has five pointy hats included.
The digital files in PDF format include a unicorn printable party hat, a rainbow hat, a hat with colorful balloons all over it, a Happy Birthday hat with curly ribbons and confetti on it, and then a blank printable hat template with the words Happy Birthday on it.
The second PDF has two birthday crown templates, one in color and one in black and white for party guests to decorate.
How to Use Birthday Hats Printable

Once you’ve downloaded the zipped file below, you will be able to choose the free printable birthday hat you want to print.
All templates are in PDF format and in landscape orientation 8.5 x 11 US letter-sized sheet (more about paper sizes here!)
You can print the free template on regular copy paper, but I’d recommend printing on white card stock paper if your printer can handle thicker materials. You can find white cardstock on Amazon here.
The cardstock makes for a much sturdier hat especially when little hands are going to be handling them! To print a very colorful crisp birthday hat template, you can use brochure paper which is similar to photo paper.
If you want to personalize the party hats, use your favorite computer software to add names before you print or use a marker or Sharpie to write names on after!
Print as many party hats as you need. Then cut around the hat shape with scissors.
Roll the party hat and tuck the tab under the opposite side and tape or use a hot glue gun to attach the sides together.
Add a piece of thin elastic or ribbon to each side of the birthday hat with tape, hot glue, a stapler, or with a hole punch. You can even find different colors of elastic on Amazon!
To add extra cuteness, glue pom poms to the top!
The party hats are ready to use!
They even make great dog party hats, lol!
You could even use the party hats along with our printable 80s trivia at a retro party!
Birthday Crown Printable
For the crown templates, cut around the crown and extra rectangle.
Tape or glue the extra rectangle to the sides to create a circle.
The crown can be placed right on!
Easy and fun for any kid’s birthday party or even a party at school!
