Holiday traditions in different countries have always fascinated me! When I was in 5th grade, I asked if I could research and write about how different countries celebrated the holiday season and then present it in our annual Christmas show.
Who does that??!! I still can’t believe I ever did, lol!
And this was back before the days of computers, so we had to research fun facts in Encyclopedias and were very limited in what we learned.
Those days are long gone and now it is super easy to learn how others, besides us in the United States, celebrate the Christmas season.
So if you are a teacher looking up lesson plans or just a parent wanting to teach your children about different languages and cultures, I have an all new set of printables for you!

To give you a few glimpses of what the free printables look like, here are a few of the pages. At the top of the page is the country, then the phrase Merry Christmas in the different languages. Also included is an image of each country on how it appears on a world map.
If you’re from America, then I’m sure you’re well aware that our holidays revolve around putting up a Christmas tree, food, giving gifts, the birth of Jesus, and Santa Claus coming on Christmas Eve.
Not everyone celebrates baby Jesus during the month of December, but most countries have started their own Christmas traditions at Christmas time.
In other countries such as France, they say “Joyeux Noel” and have a father Christmas called Pere Noel.
Each worksheet will have Christmas symbols about the different ways the country celebrates that can be colored in.
The 20 page pack would make a great advent calendar that leads up to Christmas Day. Your children or students can do one page a day while you read more about the traditions and share.
There are a ton of free resources out there to dive more in-depth into the different parts of the world. Watch YouTube videos about the different Christmas world activities in the specific country or read a book from Amazon and have everyone report a new fact they learned!
You can even sing Christmas carols in different languages. Most kids already know part of Feliz Navidad, but build a Spotify list of Christmas music from around the world!
Everyone will enjoy learning about world history when it pertains to a fun holiday! You might even want to start new family traditions from your ancestry after learning about them.
If you want your kids to work on the Christmas worksheets on their own, they will probably need to be above 2nd or 3rd grade level to read the quick blurbs about each country.
For first grade and below, I’d recommend working together and having someone that can read, and read the synopsis of important information about each country’s Christmas traditions out loud.
Another fun way to countdown the days of Christmas is with some printable advent calendars or store-bought advent calendars!
