With the end of summer coming up, there are a few more holidays that we celebrate in the United States! I already gave you a free closed for the fourth of July, so up next is closed for labor day.
Since Labor Day is a federal holiday, the majority of businesses and any state-run offices are closed to celebrate the labor movement for workers.
As with all my free printable signs, I think the best way to help all of you is to design three different versions of the closed for labor sign for you to choose from.
Closed for Labor Day Signs

The national holiday Labor Day always falls on the first Monday of September. This year, Labor Day is celebrated on Monday, September 4, 2023.
If you are lucky enough, your office might be closed the entire labor day weekend. But I always think it’s a good idea to put the printable templates up a few days early so customers or patients know you won’t be opened during your regular hours over the three-day weekend.
To give you several best options to suit your needs, I have three different sign templates for you. The download button for all three designs in PDF format is at the bottom of the post.
One Closed for Labor Day sign design is in portrait mode and states Our Office with be Closed on Monday in Observance of Labor Day with some cute gnome workers.
Then there are two Closed for Labor Day printable templates in landscape mode.
One has an American Flag with the words Closed for Labor Day and the second free download has the words Closed for labor day in red, white, and blue stars and stripes.
Once you’ve downloaded and printed the design templates the business owner or worker can hang the closed sign up by taping them to a door (front door is ideal!), front windows, or desk or stand them up by putting them inside a frame.
For best results, you could also laminate the signs and turn them into outdoor signs in front of your office building. Since the color schemes are patriotic they make for a beautiful sign of the national holiday also!
The PDF print is a color version, but the signs look fine as a black and white version if you don’t have a color printer!
While you’re off for the long weekend, you might want to make some paper crafts or have your kids use our patriotic coloring by number pages!
