Are you ready for a new fun game?? My friend has been telling me about the plastic wrap game for years and I finally got around to figuring out the Saran wrap ball game rules and also made some free printable coal cards for you all!
The plastic wrap ball game is a crowd favorite and is a great game to play after Christmas dinner or at Christmas parties since kids of all ages can play.
And if you are not a fan of white elephant or Secret Santa gift exchanges, then this might be the perfect game for your family!
Everyone will end up with random gifts to take home at the end of the game (no tears should be involved since no one is stealing presents!).
There is no physical product just a digital product available for download at the bottom of the post.

The fun part about this game is that you cater the gifts inside the ball to suit your guests.
I find the best way is for all the guests to chip in a certain amount ($20 is a good amount). Then one person buys all of the saran wrap game prizes and makes the ball out of saran wrap.
Here are some prize ideas that are small and relatively flat:
- gift cards to local restaurants, Starbucks, Target, Amazon, book store, etc.
- candy – individually wrapped candy bars, candy canes, and small boxes of candy
- lottery tickets
- gum
- mini alcohol bottles (for adult game)
- movie tickets or gift card
- comfy socks
- chapstick, small lotion bottles, nice soap
- mini pop its (fidget toys) or sensory strips – great for little kids!
To start off, use something kind of round and bulky to be the center of the ball (a wrapped gift works great here!). This will be the grand prize.
You will want to use a ton of layers of saran wrap, not sure one long piece (this makes the game much harder and lasts longer!).
Wrap a long piece of plastic wrap around the first prize so you form a small ball. Then start wrapping pieces of saran wrap while adding a small prize or gift card every so often.
You’ll want the pieces to go in different directions so people will really have to work at it.
Also, add in the printable cards every few layers (face down preferably!). Keep wrapping and wrapping and wrapping until you have a giant ball of plastic wrap with all the prizes inside.
How to Play Christmas Saran Wrap Game
There is really not a lot to the Christmas ball game! Someone will make a huge saran wrap ball filled with small gifts, gift cards, candy, and the coal cards. You will also need a pair of dice.
There are always different ways to play fun Christmas games, so make sure you decide on the rules before you start.
Pick the first person to start (can be by closest birthday, youngest, or from a roll-off).
The first player will start unwrapping the saran wrap ball while the rest of the family members take turns rolling the dice usually in a clockwise direction.
The first person keeps unwrapping the ball, removing all the presents they find, until someone rolls a double. Then that next person gets to start unwrapping while everyone keeps rolling the dice.
When the next double appears, the person that rolled the double gets a turn at the plastic wrap prize ball.
As guests start finding the saran wrap game challenge cards, they will have to do what the card says for the remainder of their turn. If the card has them do something right then (like the coal card that says hug the person across from you), the dice rolling should stop until after it’s done and they return to wrapping.
I know some people will have everyone wear oven mitts during every turn to make the game a little bit harder!
Some of the fun challenges I included in the PDF file are wearing oven mitts, unwrapping the ball behind your back, performing an animal impression, and unwrapping the ball while running in place.
But then there are also some lump of coal cards like passing one of your prizes to the person on your left or switching places.
The game continues this way until the ball of saran wrap has been completely unwrapped!
So fun, right??!! The saran wrap Christmas game might become part of your Christmas game tradition now.
