Make your own custom cutting boards! Quick and easy project using a Dollar Tree cutting board, adhesive vinyl, and a Cricut cutting machine.
Go Pink! During the month of October, I love seeing all of the breast cancer awareness and fundraising. Probably like most of you, breast cancer is near and dear to my heart.
My grandmother and a few of my friends are survivors, but I’ve also had friends that lost their brave fights. It seems like we’re getting closer and closer to a cure, but I know we still have a long way to go.
So anytime there is a chance for me to champion for this cause I am in!

I made this breast cancer awareness cutting board with just a few supplies in a matter of minutes. So in this tutorial I’m going to show you how to put vinyl on the underside of glass.
Make sure to watch the video to see how quick and easy it really is!

Breast Cancer SVG in CDS
For the month of October, Cricut is offering all of their breast cancer SVG files in Cricut Access for free! It was hard to decide between all the great designs but I decided on this one.
Applying Vinyl on Glass Cutting Board
Note: You can use any of the Cricut machines to make custom glass cutting boards – the Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore line, or the Cricut Joy.
The tip to applying vinyl on a glass cutting board is cutting out the words on mirror setting. This will allow you to apply the vinyl to the bottom side of the glass cutting board.
If you apply it to the top, it will be bumpy on this Dollar Tree cutting board but you also won’t be able to use it as a cutting board. The vinyl will come off and get pretty gross if you are putting food on top of it.
So click “mirror” setting on the left-hand side of the preview menu on every mat before you cut it. (If you need additional help in CDS, make sure to check out my Cricut Design Space 101 series.)

I cut all of it with my Cricut and permanent vinyl. Then weed off the extra vinyl.

Clean the back of the Dollar Tree cutting board with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry.

How to Put Vinyl on Underside of Glass
I aligned all of the words and then applied transfer tape over the entire image.

Scrape the transfer tape down on the vinyl well.

I eyeballed this but you can definitely use the hinge method as I used in applying vinyl to a tumbler.
Peel off the paper off the back of the vinyl, center it on the backside of the cutting board, and press it down.
It is supposed to look backward from this side! It will look the correct way when you flip the board over!

Scrape down the vinyl onto the cutting board and then peel off the transfer tape.

That’s it! Easy peasy to apply vinyl on glass cutting board to make gorgeous custom cutting boards.

Let the vinyl cure for 72 hours before it gets wet (just leave it alone so the adhesive can really set!). Make sure to hand wash only with vinyl!
This would be an easy breast cancer craft to make if you were having a breast cancer fundraiser. It would also make a great gift to any survivor or warrior you have in your family or life!

Hi! Does the vinyl need to be the same color in both sides? I ask because I made a mandala letter C in turquoise on both sides of the vinyl & it came out great. Today I made the letter T out of a copper colored textured metallic vinyl. It’s copper on one side but the inside sticky side is white so what showed thru was the white not the copper. I was so disappointed as it took a long time to weed it! Just wondering if this is why my project didn’t work out? Thanks!
Oh no, I’ve done that before too! Yes, The specialty types of vinyl don’t work unfortunately since they usually do have a white backside. I figured that out when I tried to add glitter vinyl one time. Sometimes it’s hard to know which ones won’t be the same color on the back so I try to remember to peel off a little bit to see.
