Instant download of a gift exchange printable to use with fun dice games for a Christmas party. Easy and fun game for adults and kids of all ages!
I can’t believe it’s that time of the year again – the holiday season is just around the corner, and you know what that means: it’s time for fun, laughter, and of course, gift exchanges!
If you are like my family, we do a white elephant gift exchange each year at our holiday party and get to pick presents after we draw names from a hat.
Then there is a bunch of stealing involved and sometimes there are tears and hard feelings at the end of the game.
So this year, I’ve got an all-new fun way to host a gift exchange. We’re about to roll into a new tradition for your Christmas gift exchange that leaves the last gift you end up with in the hands of a pair of dice! No personal feelings are involved!
Are you ready to shake things up with the Christmas Dice Gift Exchange Game? It’s a fantastic way to add a touch of excitement and unpredictability to your holiday gatherings.
In my last post, I gave you free printables to use with a left/right/across game which is another sure way for everyone to have fun when you don’t have dice.

Before we dive into the details of how to play and the dice game rules, let’s talk about what you’ll need to get started.
1. A pair of dice: You can use regular six-sided dice, but if you want to make it extra festive, consider using a pair of holiday-themed dice.
2. Gifts: Make sure each participant brings a wrapped gift to the exchange. You can set a price range or theme for the gifts if you like, or you can keep it totally open-ended. It’s all up to you! If it’s just an adult party, you might agree on dirty Santa gifts but for family gatherings, I would definitely stick to a type of gift that kids, teens, and adults would love!
3. Printable game sheet: Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered with a free printable Christmas Dice Gift Exchange Game sheet. You’ll find the download link at the bottom of the post.
4. A festive spirit: This one’s crucial! Make sure everyone’s in the holiday mood and ready for some fun.
How to Play the Christmas Gift Exchange Dice Game
If you are playing the dice game with a large group like at a church event or office party, you might want to break into small groups so the party guests don’t get antsy in between turns.
Before you start, make sure you decide on how many rounds you will play and how you decide on who the first player will be (the youngest player or the person whose birthday is closest). Depending on your group size, you’ll want to make sure everyone gets to roll the dice a set number of times.
1. Gather Your Gifts:
There are a few different ways you can start a new gift exchange. Everyone can start with their own gift (but then you’ll know who brought what), or you can put all the gifts in the center of the circle and each person picks a random gift to start with.
Sit or stand in a circle and make sure everyone is holding one gift.
2. Set Up the Dice:
Next, you’ll need a regular six-sided dice. You can easily find one at a local store or use a dice-rolling app on your phone. Place the dice in the center where everyone can reach it.
3. Roll the Dice:
Now, the fun begins! The game begins with the roll of the dice.
The first person will roll the dice. Check the dice printable game board to see what those different numbers correspond to and either just the roller or everyone does something.
For example:
A 2 and 1: Everyone will pass the gift they have in their hands to the left. This task would be done by everyone!
or 4 and 1: Trade gifts with any player older than you. This action would only be done by the person rolling the dice.
4. Repeat and Laugh:
Once the gift is exchanged the next person will roll the dice.
Keep rolling the dice until you’ve reached the number of rounds you had agreed upon. The laughter and surprises will make your Christmas party unforgettable.
5. Unwrap
Finally, if your gift wasn’t unwrapped during the game, unwrap your gifts! That’s it! The perfect way to do a gift exchange.
