I’ve had a bunch of posts in the past with free printable elf letters and elf on the shelf notes, but today I thought I’d just give you one so you’re not overwhelmed!
I’ve created an Elf on the Shelf arrival letter that you can have out with your elf the first day he/she appears back in your house.
For some people, that’s the day after Thanksgiving, for others, they wait until December 1st.
Either way, I have you covered with four different versions of the printable letters.
There is no physical item, just a free digital download of the letters at the bottom of the post.

In case this is the first year you are doing the whole Elf on the Shelf thing and just got a brand new elf, let me give you a little background on this fun way to get your kids to behave!
An Elf on the Shelf is one of Santa’s scout elves that comes to live at a child’s house to watch how they are behaving this time of the year. The elf’s arrival is usually a day that kids look forward to and once the elf makes an appearance they are on good behavior since they know that the elves see everything.
Then they report the behavior back to Santa Claus at the North Pole every night and then return back to the house.
This is why the fun Elf moves every night to a new location and kids love to search for their favorite Elf the next morning. There is magic to the elf so kiddos are not allowed to touch the elf or it loses its powers.
The elf helps to keep the child on the nice list since like a Santa Cam, the Elf is always watching.
There are so many fun and crazy elf on the shelf ideas out there. Some parents have so much fun coming up with different elf shenanigans that elves find themselves in when they return.
I have some printable props and a camping set if you need some elf on shelf ideas! Then on Christmas Eve, the elf returns to the North Pole where they stay until next year.

How to Use Elf on Shelf I’m Back Letter
As mentioned above, there are four different elf on the shelf I’m back letters included in the PDF file below.
There is a version with a boy elf and another with a girl elf.
Then there is a black Elf and blank Elf on the Shelf letter template to use with any and all elves.
The letter is signed, from Your Elf, but you can always put the elf’s name at the bottom also.
Simply download the free letter below and print it on a home printer on regular copy paper.
You can roll the Elf on the shelf welcome letter up and have the Elf holding it, or you can put it right next to the Elf on the first day he arrives.
