Grab a FREE Christmas SVG to make gifts or DIY decor! Two different Christmas cut files are available for free: Merry Christmas SVG and Jesus is the Reason for the Season SVG.
The best gifts are handmade… A motto I live by. I love giving and receiving handmade gifts, they just mean so much more.
When I bought my first Cricut machine about eight years ago, I loved making beautiful cards for every occasion… birthdays, babies, pee pee in the potty announcements!
Back then there was not a computer program to design files in so you could only cut with cartridges and couldn’t really modify anything.
As with all changing technology, the new design software and the newer Cricuts can do SO MUCH! It is almost overwhelming what they can do.
When I first started dabbling in vinyl, I scoured the internet and Facebook groups for free SVG files since it was just easier than having to design your own.
If you are in the same spot, I feel you, so that’s one of the reasons I love giving back to the crafting community with some free SVG files!
Learning to make them is a process in itself, so when I make some I love, I want to share them with you so you can make your own gifts or decor.
If you’d like to read more on what a Cricut can do, make sure to hop over to my Ultimate Resource to Cricut Ideas.
Since the holidays are coming up, of course, I had to make a free Christmas SVG or two. Both the Merry Christmas SVG file and Jesus is the reason for the season SVG file are free and you can download below!
I used the Merry Christmas SVG to make a cute decoration for my new Christmas tree shelf (click the link for the tutorial!). I just applied the vinyl on the glass of an old picture frame.
I made a little video tutorial to show you how easy it is! Making this didn’t cost me anything and took about 5 minutes to make.
Here is it with a plain piece of cardstock in the back. I can’t decide which one I prefer… what do you think?
Make sure to watch the video at the top. If you don’t want to make DIY Christmas decor, you can make some festive mugs, pillows, t-shirts, tea towels, wine glasses, etc. These all make great gifts or keep a few for yourself!
DIY Christmas Mug With Free Christmas SVG
I bought these nice large white mugs at the $.99 Store. I used the Jesus is the reason for the Season SVG cut file to make myself a new custom mug.
Clean the mug with alcohol (rubbing alcohol that is!) and apply permanent vinyl cut with a Cricut to them with transfer tape.
I like to hover a heat gun over the vinyl and press the vinyl down with my fingers to make sure it really adheres well.
I have a video tutorial on how to apply vinyl to a mug if you need more help with this step.
And with all vinyl, make sure to tell the recipients to hand wash only! If you’d like to put in a cute tag to remind them, download my FREE made with love tag here.
I am really loving the simple black and white decor this year. I even made this buffalo plaid serving tray (from a thrift store find), buffalo plaid ornaments and buffalo plaid stockings. You can watch how easy it is to paint buffalo plaid here.

I hope so too! I've never used one but I would think they would use similar files!

What font did you use on the Merry Christmas svg? I would love to add a name to some mugs, with the same font.

Hi Kirsten, Christmas is in Honied font. I think Merry is Whimsy. Hope that helps!
