Hi Friends! Last year I started a new tradition at Thanksgiving of playing games at the table. I found a few free Thanksgiving printables online, printed them out, and laid them at each table setting. All of us had a lot of fun playing a trivia game and saying what we were thankful for.
My kids also helped me make Thanksgiving placemats with different words that remind us of Thanksgiving. You can see post about our DIY Thanksgiving table decorations here.
Free Thanksgiving Printables
In the spirit of Thanksgiving coming up, I made my own Free Thanksgiving printables for everyone! A lot of times we talk about what we are thankful FOR but this year I wanted to talk about WHY we are thankful for certain things. It’s a great way to talk to kids about the reasons behind gratitude.
My five-year old and I had a lot of fun creating this game. We sat down at the park and I asked him to give me a word that started with T that he was thankful for. He said “toys” and I asked him WHY he was thankful and he said because it gives him something fun to do.
I then said “turkey” and asked him WHY again and he said “because it’s good to eat and gives us protein”! Oh, the things that come out of his mouth always make me laugh!!! I guess he is listening when I talk to him about nutrition!
As I was thinking of more, he said “Mom, do it again. Give me another letter!”. He was hooked! We went through the whole alphabet and came up with a lot of ideas and he gave me a lot of reasons WHY he was thankful for things.
It was a very sweet moment and fun for both of us. He also learned what utilities are (U in Thankful!)!

Conversation starters are also a fun way to get everyone talking. Download and print out these conversation cards on paper or cardstock, cut them out, and have them at each person’s setting.
You can even write their name on the back of the card and use as their name card. If some of the cards, don’t pertain to your guests, simply put them aside!
Or pass them out at the table and go around and have everyone read their card and answer it. If you want to keep going, just have everyone pass their cards to the right or left! You can keep passing until everyone is answered or everyone is getting antsy! Click on the link below to download:
I hope these get the conversation going at your Thanksgiving table. You never know what others are thinking unless you ask them, so these Thanksgiving printables can open up even those introverts (Like my family!). Enjoy the laughter and love that comes next!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!
