How to Make a Handprint Butterfly Craft
Using a child's set of handprints, you can make a cute handprint art project to give as a gift or to use for decorations!
Tools
- Craft glue
- Pencil, Sharpies
- Pair of Scissors
Instructions
- Choose 3 or 4 different colors of craft paper. If you only have white card stock, you could always use acrylic paints to add bright colors to the butterfly.
- Download and print out the free butterfly template below on regular copy paper. Cut each piece out and use the cutouts to trace the template patterns on the desired color construction paper with a pencil. Then cut out the traced patterns. Trace around your child's hand and cut two sets of handprints out of different colors (or you can use the handprint templates provided).
- Glue the small horizontal pieces onto the butterfly body base to create a stripped butterfly's body.
- The next step is to glue the butterfly's antennae cutouts on the top side of the butterfly's head circle. Or you can always use pipe cleaners.
- Glue the head on the top side of the butterfly's body.
- If using the sets of handprints from the free template, glue the larger handprints on the backside of the body base to create the top butterfly's wings.
- Repeat with the smaller pair of hand-prints to make the lower set of wings.
- Now make the face of the papercraft butterfly. You can use a Sharpie or black marker to draw on the eyes and smile. Or use other art supplies like googly eyes or pom poms to create depth. Get creative!
- Use scissors or a hole punch to cut out small round and teardrop shapes (or use other sparkly supplies like sequins or buttons). Glue them on the handprint wings to decorate the cute butterfly handprint craft!
- The beautiful butterfly is all ready to give as a gift. Make a bunch of butterfly paper handprints and attach fishing wire behind them to hang from the ceiling. Or glue a popsicle stick to the back to use as a butterfly puppet.
