For this tutorial, we will be making the handprint craft for Valentine’s Day but you can really make it for any holiday by changing up the colors of paper you use.
Make Christmas handprint wreaths using green and red scrapbook paper and then add some faux red berries or greenery instead of the hearts!
How to Make Handprint Wreath
Make a cute handprint wreath with some paper and glue!
Materials
- Cardboard (Or poster board or thick cardstock for base)
- Colored craft paper like construction paper or cardstock
Tools
- Craft glue - hot glue gun or tacky glue
- pair of scissors
- Ribbon
- Glitter Paper (optional)
- Pencil
Instructions
- Download and print the wreath base pattern from below on regular copy paper. This will be the wreath base so it needs to be sturdy. Use cardboard, thick cardstock, or posterboard and trace the heart template on it.
- Cut out the traced heart base with scissors.
- To make the wreath Valentine's themed, select different shades of pink and red craft paper for the handprints. Older children might be able to trace their own hands, but an adult will probably have to help younger kids by tracing around their hands with a pencil. The number of paper handprints needed will depend on the size of the hand! Cut out all the hands out of paper (this is a fun way to practice hand-eye coordination!)
- Start attaching the handprint cutouts to the wreath base with glue on one side of the top of the heart.
- Add the next handprint in a different color so the first one overlaps it.
- Continue gluing the hand cutouts around the base in alternating colors.
- Start gluing the handprints on the other side of the heart in alternating colors.
- Continue attaching all the cutouts.
- Fill the entire wreath base making sure to overlap the previous handprint when attaching the next one.
- Once the paper handprint wreath is complete, glue a ribbon on the backside near the top so that the wreath can be hung. For an extra personal touch, cut out some glitter heart shapes (or use stickers) and glue them to the wreath.
Notes
Enjoy the cute keepsake wreath by hanging it up as Valentine's decor or give it as a handmade Valentine's Day gift!
