Instant download of left right across Christmas game free printable to use this holiday season! Choose from two versions of the left right Christmas game.
I have a bunch of new printable games coming at you and these ones are to use at those fun holiday parties during the Christmas season.
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite Christmas tradition on Christmas Eve is a white elephant gift exchange. After our Christmas caroling, the whole family gathers around the Christmas tree with all of the wrapped presents.
We do stealing and lots of times there are tears involved, but a great way to avoid bad feelings is with this Christmas party game!
The right left across gift exchange game is so much fun and perfect for large groups and office parties. At the end of the story all family members or guests are left with a wrapped gift that will be a surprise!
If you’ve never played this gift passing game, it’s super easy!
I made two different free printables that you can choose from to play this fun game.
Simply download the free printable Christmas games at the bottom of the post and print whichever ever Christmas story you want to use for the gift game.
How to Play Left Right Christmas Game
All guests of the holiday party who want to participate will bring one wrapped gift. It’s best to give everyone a dollar range that the gift should be in.
Each person playing the left-right Christmas game should have brought their own gifts. So if there are 20 people playing then there should be 20 gifts. Parents you’ll need to bring gifts for little kids!
Either stand or sit in a circle with a gift in your hand. You can either start the left-right game with the gift you brought (everyone will know then!) or just a random present.
One person will read the funny story or nativity story and as the verbal cues of right, left, and across are said everyone passes their gift in that direction. It’s that easy!
It’s really such a fun way to give gifts without drama (anybody else remember the gift exchange episode of The Office??!!”)

As I mentioned, I wrote two different printable Christmas stories to choose from. Each printable game story has the words right, left, and across in red and underlined in case you print the poem in black and white.
The first one is a funny Christmas gift exchange poem about the actual gifts and would be perfect to use at an office Christmas party or at family gatherings.
My daughter helped me write this silly story about holiday gift exchanges. In case you want to read it from your phone, here it is:
Who wants the present they have RIGHT in their own hands?? Well, too bad, because I doubt you will be left with it when this game is over!
You might have heard about this present exchange game, that people pass their gifts to the right and even across from them. Yes, that’s right, that is what we are going to do!
So don’t get too fond of the package you have or even excited about the gift to the left of you. But really, why would you be excited about the present across from you when you don’t even know what it is?
You might have the dreaded fruitcake right in your hand! Or the white elephant gift that was LEFT over from a Christmas party last week.
Who really knows what are even in these gift bags and if you’d even want to keep it, right? We all know the person who spends the right amount of money and gets a really good present to bring and also the person that just ordered a random gift right from Amazon last night!
So say to yourself… Do I really need another gift? I’m sure you’re thinking, “If I’m left with a comfy blanket or expensive bottle of wine, then Yes!!”. But the little negative nelly on your left shoulder is probably also chiming in with “Don’t get too excited, you will probably be left with a used candle like last year!”.
Now you are probably looking at the person across from you wondering if they were the ones who brought that candle last year. That’s right, you can stare them down, it’s all good.
Because this year, you know you will get the right present to bring to a gift exchange… a gift card!
A gift card is a shapeshifter – for the person on your left it’s a new sweater (Perhaps one that’s striped? Or maybe one with embroidery across the top?), while the person to your right would swear it looks like a brand new album. But enough daydreaming! It’s time to live in the present and take in what’s right in front of you.
Pick up the present closest to you; give it a thorough look-over. How many inches is it across? Two? Five? Hm… not quite.
What about the one to your left? No, no, this one’s just on the side of too crinkly. Let’s try one more time! Put all of your focus into finding your perfect fit! Do you think you got the message across?Well, would you look at that! You feel it, don’t you? This one right here? It’s just right.
The second option is for my Christian friends who’d rather include the story of baby Jesus at their family Christmas party.
The story of the birth of Jesus and the Wise Men comes straight from the bible with some words added to play the game.
We can learn all about the true meaning of Christmas right from the bible. Back in those times, Caesar Augustus made an order that a census of the entire Roman world should be taken and that every person should go right back to their own town to register.
Upon hearing of the order, Joseph and Mary left the town of Nazareth and traveled across the way to Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph were engaged to be married and Mary was pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
While in Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to her firstborn son. There were no guest rooms left for them to sleep, so she wrapped him in cloth and placed him right in a manger to sleep.
Across the way, there were shepherds watching over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them and said “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared right next to the angel, praising God and saying “Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.
After the angels left back to Heaven, the shepherds said to those across and to the right of each other “Let’s go to the Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
They left their fields and found Mary and Joseph and the baby, who was lying right in the manger. After they saw him, they spread the word all across the land about what had been told to them by the Angel and all that heard were amazed.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, three wise men came from the right (or east!) to visit the newborn king after they had seen his star rise.
They followed the star across to where it stopped right over the place where baby Jesus was and they were overjoyed. They bowed down and worshipped him and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then they left Bethlehem and returned to their county.
At the end of each story, everyone will end up with a gift! Fun and easy, my kind of game!
Another great way to spread the holiday spirit around Christmas time is with our Secret Santa questionnaire and also You’ve Been Elfed printables.
