Instant download of a Reindeer Food printable to use during the holiday season. Attach this magical reindeer food poem for a fun Christmas tradition!
As you have probably noticed, I’m all about Christmas traditions! When my kids were young, one of our friends dropped off a bag of magic reindeer food and my kids were so excited.
If you haven’t heard of this fun activity yet, it’s a super easy way to add some joy to children’s faces without a lot of work (hhhmm, I’m talking to you, Elf on the Shelf!)
The magic reindeer food helps Santa’s sleigh find your house. All your little kids have to do is sprinkle some of the reindeer food on your front lawn, and it helps Santa’s reindeer fly over your house.
Make a bunch of reindeer food bags and pass them out as gifts to your students, to friends in the neighborhood, or pass out as favors at a holiday party. The bags of reindeer food would also be a fun idea to put in you’ve been elfed buckets!

How to Make Magic Reindeer Food
Really, reindeer food is a super easy recipe! All you need is some oats and sugar sprinkles. The sprinkles add the sparkle that the reindeer see as they are flying around on Christmas Eve to drop off presents for Christmas morning.
Magic Reindeer Food Recipe
- Oats (uncooked oatmeal)
- Sugar Sprinkles, Edible Glitter, Christmas sprinkles or sanding sugar
- Ziploc bags – snack size or sandwich size
- Free printable reindeer food poem (see below)
- Printer
- Copy paper or sticker paper
To make a bunch of goody bags of the magic reindeer dust, add a bunch of old fashion oats to a large bowl. I’d make sure there is about 3-4 spoonfuls of mix per bag.
Then sprinkle in a bunch of sugar glitter and/or candy sprinkles that you’d use to decorate cookies or cake. (Not craft glitter that would make a huge mess on your lawn and not good for wildlife to eat!).
Spoon 3 to 4 tablespoons of the oatmeal mix into a ziploc bag.
Print out as many magic reindeer food labels you need. I made a few different options, so you can pick which one works best for you!
Both free reindeer printables, have this cute reindeer food poem:
Sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve night, The moon will make it sparkly and bright! As Santa’s reindeer search and roam,This food will guide them straight to your home!
There is one sheet of two magic reindeer poems that are printable bag toppers. Print them out on plain white copy paper, cut around the edges, and fold them in half to staple over the top corners of a sandwich bag.
Then there is a sheet with smaller reindeer poems, one rectangular and one circular, if you want to print them out on sticker paper or printable vinyl and then stick the reindeer food tags to the front of any kind of clear bag or even baby food jars!
That’s all there is to it! Easy Peasy! I’m sure adding magical reindeer food to your front lawn will become a part of your list of favorite Christmas traditions (like using an advent calendar or checking Santa’s flight tracker online!)
