How to Make Paper Sunflowers
Make as many paper sunflowers and any size as you want by following the steps below!
There is a print button, so feel free to print out the step-by-step tutorial if you want.
We will be making a medium flower pattern with construction paper, but use whatever paper medium you want. Use the same steps to make tissue paper flowers out of sheets of tissue paper or yellow crepe paper.
Materials
- Yellow colored paper (construction paper, cardstock, tissue paper)
- Black colored paper
- Plastic or paper straw or pipe cleaner
Tools
- Glue stick & hot glue gun
- Scissors
Instructions
- Gather your supplies for the paper craft. You can use construction paper, craft paper, or cardstock.
- Cut a square out of the yellow colored paper as big as you want.
- Fold the square two times to create a smaller square by folding in in half once and then folding it in half again.
- Fold the square into a triangle and cut five thick slits from the curved edge toward the point with scissors. These are going to be the flower petals.
- Each slit is going to be a flower petal. Shape the sunflower petal using scissors by cutting the right and left sides of the slit off.
- Now unfold and fold the petals of the flower in one direction.
- Make another layer of sunflower petals by repeating the steps above and place it on top so you have two layers.
- The next step is to make the center of the flower. Use black or brown paper and create a long strip of folded-over paper accordion style. Cut the side of the fold into brown strips (don't cut all the way through!)
- Now fold the strip into a circle to create the sunflower center. Glue it to the center of the base of the petals with a hot glue gun.
- The last step is to cut a tiny bit of the straw where you want the back of the flower to sit.Attach the sunflower to the straw with glue and you're all done!
- Make a bunch of beautiful flowers to make a sunflower bouquet to put in a flower vase! Or use as anything you want!
I hope have fun making as many sunflowers as you want. If you are a teacher, these sunflowers would be a great art activity for school-age kids along with our summer reading challenge printable to take home on summer break!
