Make an easy and cute one fish two fish craft with this free printable template, popsicle sticks, and craft paper!
“One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” is a line from the famous Dr. Seuss that everyone knows. I’m not sure any childhood is complete without reading the beloved Dr. Seuss books and one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books was definitely One Fish Two Fish.
And with Dr. Seuss’ birthday coming up on March 2nd (along with National Read Across America Day), I wanted to share this cute One Fish Two Fish craft that you can make at home with your kids or at school with students.
If you want even more Dr. Seuss themed learning fun and activities, make sure to check out and get inspired by our list of over 30 Dr. Seuss crafts, Thing 1 and Thing 2 craft, and printable Dr. Seuss worksheets.
At the bottom of the post, you’ll find the One Fish Two Fish activities PDF to download and print at home to make your own fish craft.

My instructions will end with putting the paper fish on a popsicle stick to use as a puppet, but you can really make any Seuss craft with these 3D paper fish.
You can draw a fish bowl on a paper plate and have the kids glue them on that or use the fish pattern as cupcake toppers or straw toppers or just as basic decorations for baby showers, birthday parties (think Dr. Seuss party), or even bingo nights!
Another fun way to make the fish more animated is by adding googly eyes instead of the black marker! Or instead of wooden sticks use pipe cleaners to make this easy craft. Or even use craft foam as the fish bodies and pom poms as tails!
I have also included a fish SVG file of the fish shapes for my fellow Cricut crafters. Once you’ve cut the sections out of colored cardstock or construction paper, follow the directions below for putting this fun craft together.

One Fish Two Fish Craft and Activity!
Cute handmade One Fish Two Fish craft to make on Dr. Seuss Day, for a Seuss themed birthday party or baby shower, or for any time when reading the One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish book!
Materials
- Colored or Construction Craft Paper - yellow, green, red, and blue
- Sharpie
- Craft Glue
- Pencil
- Popsicle Sticks
Tools
- Scissors
Instructions
- Gather your materials including the paper in different colors for multiple fish.
- Print out the fish template at the bottom of the post on white copy paper to use as a template to trace. There are templates for three different fish on the printed sheet. (Or if your printer allows, print the PDF out on colored paper, to skip the tracing set).
- Cut the template pieces out.
- Lay all three pieces of each fish on a red, blue, green, or yellow piece of paper. Trace around the templates with a pencil.
- Cut out each piece (body base, tail fin, and side fin).
- Glue the side fin on the top side of the body base cutout.
- Now we need to accordion fold the tail. Start by folding the long tail-fin cutout in half length-wise.
- Create small and even accordion folds by folding the long edge in about 1 cm and then flip the whole thing over and fold again. Keep repeating until all of it is folded.
- Fold the accordion folded tail-fin in the middle.
- Apply glue on the middle part of the folded fin so that the middle parts are slightly attached.
- Now glue the tail fin on the backside of the fish body.
- Use a Sharpie to draw the mouth and eye on each fish. Glue the fish onto a popsicle stick if desired.
- Repeat the same steps to make more colorful fish from the 1 Fish 2 Fish book.
I hope the kids have so much fun making and playing with this Dr. Seuss craft!
