Since we’re coming up on a New Year, I thought everyone could use improved mental health instead of just physical health.

My friend gave me a daily gratitude journal book at a favorite thing exchange a few years ago and I thought it was such a genius idea and a great thing to help us appreciate all of the good things in our lives.

When our kids were younger we used to all go around the dinner table and everyone had to say what they were grateful for that day. Unfortunately, as they’ve gotten older we only do it at major holidays now, but I still like to put daily gratitude journals in their stockings every year!

I think it’s so important to pause for a moment every day of our busy lives and to just write down a word or two of something we are grateful for.

So this new free printable is all about learning to practice the attitude of gratitude!

I find changing my mindset about a mundane task into something to be grateful for being the best way to make my heart lighter. While I’m folding laundry or washing dishes, I tell myself that I am grateful for having clothes to keep me warm or dishes and food that nourish our bodies.

Making these minor changes in how I think about the little things has had such a positive effect on my life. It has decreased my anxiety and complaining a lot and has made me a better Mom and wife.

How to Use the Daily Gratitude Journal

The instant download of the printable gratitude journal and gratitude prompts are at the bottom of the post.

The PDF file consists of two pages. The first page is a blank monthly gratitude journal template. Print out 12 to have your own journal for each month of the year!

Write the month in the top right corner of the printable. Then there is a box under each day to write a simple word or two of what you are grateful for each day of the week.

There is also a line for a weekly affirmation word or phrase to write down at the top of the free gratitude journal. Daily affirmation cards are another simple way to increase our love for ourselves and others.

Sometimes kids or even adults think that it’s only the big things that they have (material possessions) that they can be grateful for. But in truth, learning to have a grateful heart is thinking about all of the positive things that make us smile or make our life just a little bit better.

When you are first starting out trying to express gratitude, it might be hard to think of things in everyday life to add to your gratitude list. That’s why I added another sheet of gratitude prompts.

Using the prompts is a great way to get you started practicing a daily gratitude habit. Being grateful for a favorite holiday season, a smell, the best thing that happened today, a place or a person might not be something that pops into your head naturally.

So use the prompt sheet if needed or not! It’s up to you! Getting started on gratitude journaling is your journey. Find a small amount of time each day to record your grateful thought that works for you.

Some people like to incorporate their positive mindset with bible journaling time first thing in the morning. But you do you! Making it a part of your daily routine is the perfect way to not forget to do it!

For younger kids, using a gratitude scavenger hunt or making a gratitude jar might be more fun when first starting out with the habit of gratitude.
