Hi Friends! For big birthdays we splurge some. I shared with you about our family vacation to Oahu the summer after I turned 40 (found here), but I also wanted to share with you the amazing place my hubby and I went to on my actual 40th birthday. We are always looking for a great weekend getaway for couples in California so we don’t have to pay for flights (plus I am not a fan of flying!!)

So, where did we go and have the most amazing spoiled weekend?? The Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay! We have never stayed at a Ritz before so my 40th was the perfect time to indulge and it was well worth it!
We are very fortunate that my parents live nearby and can watch my kids mid-week when the prices are cheaper. We always do our weekend getaways on Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday when the price of hotel rooms are significantly lower than Friday/Saturday.
We were pampered from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with glasses of champagne at the check in desk. We had an ocean view room and a very comfy bed!! I’m not a good sleeper and am particular about beds, but this was a good one!
The grounds are absolutely breathtaking! Beautiful ocean views and a ton of Adirondack chairs all over.
The day we arrived, we went down to the spa to check it out but it was already closed. To our surprise, an employee came out and offered to show us around the spa and let us in the locker rooms and showers. It was so nice to have a little personal tour!
We had spa treatments booked for the next day and they didn’t disappoint. My massage therapist upgraded me when I told her it was my birthday and I melted away in a peaceful relaxing bliss. Later in the day, I was able to sit and read and RELAX!! So peaceful and quiet!
We were there in January, so it was a little chilly but I loved getting warm and cozy with the provided blankets, fire pits, and drinks! We also took several walks along the coast line nearby. We never had to use our car!
There is a golf course, so if you are a golfer, this place has the most amazing views!
And the sunset… oh my… so amazing!! Pictures don’t do it justice!
For us, the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay was definitely out of our price range and we will probably not go again anytime soon, but it was so worth it to go for a special occasion! Getting away from the kiddos and resetting in such a peaceful and beautiful place is so needed from time to time!

A cool website I like to use when traveling is HotelsCombined, since it puts all rates across the web in one place. Like Kayak for hotels!! Click here to check out the prices for The Ritz or search for other places to stay in Half Moon Bay!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Please let me know if you have any questions!
