I drink a protein shake everyday for lunch. My youngest loves shakes too and it’s so fun for him to make a healthy yummy kid’s smoothie with different kinds of fruit. He will put anything in a smoothie – strawberries, raspberries, bananas, blueberries, pineapple, etc. Adding a scoop of chocolate powder veggies and some yogurt and he’s good to go!
The easiest and most frugal way to make smoothies is to freeze any fruit that is about to turn bad. Bananas are the easiest and taste good in any smoothie and add that extra flavor that masks the taste of power greens. When our bananas are getting brown, we freeze them to use in smoothies. This is how you do it.
Cover a baking sheet with wax paper or silicone sheet. Take your brown bananas, peel them, and slice them into pieces. Put them in the freezer for anywhere from an hour to overnight.
Take them out and throw them in a freezer ziploc bag. Put bag back in freezer and use whenever you’re in the mood for a yummy smoothie!
For my kid’s smoothies, I like to add some veggies and good stuff that still tastes great. My favorite is Amazing Grass Kidz SuperFood Powder, Outrageous Chocolate Flavor, 60 Servings, 360-Gram Container. It has a chocolate flavor along with 31 fruits and vegetables! My youngest loves to add it to the blender along with any fruit we have on hand. We put a little water in the blender, along with some vanilla yogurt, one scoop of Superfood Powder, a handful of power green salad mix, and then fruit (frozen bananas or any berries). Blend it up, pour it in a cup, add a straw, and it’s gone in my house!
Cheap, healthy, yummy, and a great summertime snack!! Can’t go wrong!
